Annie Blanchet Rouze

Altering reality and changing perceptions

Annie’s work is based around the idea of the evolving landscape, both rural and urban. She explores the interplay between different elements of an image and experiments with scale, volume and colours, using cuts and collages to reduce, increase or simply play with some aspects of reality. She sees her role as being to transform what is real, re-inventing features of iconic images.

She finds the constant change and momentum that dominate urban life particularly exhilarating, and enjoys the variety of colour, culture and history that city life affords; it is as much what she describes as the ‘urban buzz’ as the architecture that she paints. Running parallel to this, she also creates landscapes in a semi abstract style, which feature plants, flowing water and flowering trees; her aim here is to revert to a more natural state, bringing nature back into cities and to place people within a natural world with no boundaries.

Annie works with a combination of contrasting materials, organic or synthetic, and over the years has learnt a great deal about the intrinsic qualities of materials and textures, and the ways in which they can work together.

Born in Le Havre, Normandy, France, Annie studied art there and then in Montmartre in Paris from a young age. She later moved to London where she attended Kensington and Chelsea College before graduating from Central Saint Martins College of Arts and Design in 2009 with a BA (Hons) in Fine Art. She has been a professional artist ever since, exhibiting and selling her stunning mixed media images across the UK, and her ever growing group of collectors includes British actor Duncan Duff and high profile financier Joachim Gottschalk. Her work is also held in the Central Saint Martins Museum Collection.
