Taking the age-old medium of mosaics to an exciting and modern place, Ed Chapman creates ‘firsts’ in mosaic, unique portraits of iconic faces shown in a completely new way. Ed uses fragments of ceramic or stone tile, slate, vinyl, even on one occasion bullet casings to explore the idea of our own fragmented lives and personalities. Ed’s work has been exhibited across the UK since 1997 from Mayfair to Manchester, as well as in California, New York City and in museums across North America since 2010. His work is sold in the UK and Europe, North America, Asia, Africa, the Far East and the Middle East, and his corporate commissions include a series of mosaics for UK Revolution Bars.
Members of the Saudi Royal family and international musicians Annie Lennox and Motorhead’s late frontman Lemmy have bought and commissioned portraits.
Richard Burton’s widow Sally commissioned a portrait of her late husband in 500 million-year-old Welsh slate.
In 2012 won an innovation award for a stone tile mosaic of David Bowie made for his 65th birthday – widely covered in the media and featured on the front of The Sunday Times.
