Distinguished British colourist and true Renaissance man
Jeffrey Pratt’s paintings have been exhibited in many prestigious galleries from the USA to Singapore and the West Indies, and his collectors include influential Jewellery designer Elizabeth Gage and celebrity chef Rick Stein. His London exhibitions include a major one man show at Lloyds of London - a red carpet event which was personally arranged by the chairman of Lloyds (himself a collector).
Jeffrey has remained passionately loyal to plein air painting, working outside, at one with nature, in the landscape rather than viewing it through a lens or on a screen and the consequent honesty of the work radiates from the canvas.
He says: “I enjoy the thought that people trust my eyes, that they can sense the inherent truth and can be confident that I have identified each and every brush stroke to paint a faithful précis of all those subtle hues and tones that my eye can identify, but only in that very moment, on that day, in that hour, as that particular cloud is speeding by…here, now, real.”
Each vibrant landscape, still life or figurative work is characterised by an extraordinary dynamism and clarity of colour. Although his style is firmly rooted in the 21st century, Jeffrey’s authentic creative process combines the traditional tenets of technical excellence and compositional economy. This dedication to a sense of artistic history and heritage is enhanced by the classical presentation of each individual oil painting in a finely wrought handmade frame.
