Richard Zarzi’s extravagant explorations of popular culture bring together fashion, celebrity and the cult of the icon in vibrant and dynamic statements.
Before establishing himself as one of the world’s most renowned pop artists, Richard enjoyed a successful career in the fashion industry, and he brings his extensive knowledge and expertise to bear in his creative process. His highly distinctive colourways, playful juxtapositions of character and background, and sophisticated design and visual trickery makes his work instantly recognisable. He sees his art as an opportunity to imitate, supplement, alter, or counteract the work of nature and to celebrate the glamorous side of modern society.
Richard uses an unusual array of tools and processes to create his mixed media and inject sparkle into his message, including painting and projection, resin and diamond dust. The magical, often dazzling, outcomes highlight the natural characteristics of his subjects, capturing their beauty, humour or charisma and rendering their image timeless through his unique interpretation.
Richard has been the subject of many solo shows at a wide range of glamorous events in his home country including the Monaco Yacht Show and the Cannes Film Festival where he exhibits regularly. He has also exhibited across Europe, notably with a show in London’s Mayfair dedicated solely to work inspired by one of his favourite muses, Kate Moss. His work is held in some of the most sought-after art collections in the world. He numbers several major stars amongst his collectors, including Kate Moss herself, Freddie Ljungberg, Trevor Horn and the late Karl Lagerfeld.
Richard was born in St. Tropez and still has a home in Cannes, but he now lives and works in London.
