Held at the prestigious Clarendon Fine Art Gallery,

Mayfair, the guest list featured a host of celebrities

including many of the big names who had created

artwork for the event, including: comedian Jim Moir (Vic

Reeves) and wife, model Nancy Sorrell; TV personality

Anneka Rice; presenter Wendy Turner-Webster; and

artists Josie Russell, Pollyanna Pickering; Lauren St

John, Nicky Phillipps and Arabella Ross. Other guests

included designer Elizabeth Emanuel and rapper XL.

Flog It favourite, James Lewis, took charge of the

gavel, as bidders jostled to secure the stunning

original works, including a large abstract painting by

Hollywood actor Billy Zane, and a beautiful image of the

legendary George Adamson - the real-life ‘Lion Man’

whose experiences inspired the classic film Born Free

– depicted with YouTube sensation Christian the lion,

created especially by celebrated lyricist and talented

artist, Bernie Taupin.

Follwing the event, Virginia McKenna said:

“Surrounded

by old friends, new friends and beautiful and original

artworks of wildlife, the evening at the Clarendon

Gallery was one to treasure. James Lewis conducted

the auction in his inimitable and irresistible way, and

Sherree Valentine-Daines painted a tiger (her first of a

wild animal) in front of us, completing it in time to be

the final auction item! So, an amazing evening for wild

animals and humans alike.”

The Born Free Foundation is a dynamic

international wildlife charity, founded in 1984

by the actors Bill Travers MBE and Virginia

McKenna OBE, stars of the iconic film Born

Free, and their son, Will Travers OBE, the

charity’s President. Born Free takes action

worldwide to save lives, stop suffering and

protect species in the wild.
