To celebrate a recent landmark birthday, Danielle O'Connor Akiyama and her husband Denis enjoyed an inspirational trip to Bali, Bangkok and Burma. Her new collection has been profoundly influenced by the spirit of these three remarkable places.
Danielle was very taken with the temples of Bagan, as she has long wanted to explore them. In particular the sulamani temple with its age worn frescoes, inspired her. She did a series of photos focusing on specific areas and colour fields, which are now presenting themselves in her artwork.
Sunrise in a balloon over Bagan was also strangely inspiring.
The highlight of her recent travels was meeting up with her daughter in both Bali and Burma! A quote from Danielle: “We all had a memorable trip in a long boat visiting temples and markets which was so very lovely. Seeing the villages built on stilts on the water was of great interest.”
Danielle will be making a series of personal appearances at Whitewall Galleries in September and November.
